 Lionel model trains were very popular from the early 1900's and during that time, the most common were O scale model trains. The beauty of O gauge trains was that although they were small, they weren't too tiny for everyone to handle, which includes children. Later, a variety of sizes started to be offered, and the O scale fell from favor.
Very popular were the operating cars by Lionel including the vintage Milk Car. Something I have carried out with a number of my Lionel operating cars when I rewired them was to install a small rubber grommet in the hole in the car floor that the wires from the pickup rollers pass through. This will prevent the car floor from cutting through the insulation and creating a short.
